Plant Select® is a cooperative program administered by Denver Botanic Gardens and Colorado State University in concert with horticulturists and nurseries throughout the Rocky Mountain region and beyond. The purpose of Plant Select is to seek out, identify and distribute the very best plants for landscapes and gardens from the intermountain region to the high plains.
Additional plants that thrive in the sunny, variable conditions of Rocky Mountain gardens are added to the program each year. These may be ones that have grown here for years and have not yet attained the popularity they deserve, or new discoveries. Superior forms or hybrids are also included in the annual designation. The Plant Select palette includes trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, ground covers, grasses, petite plants, and even a few annuals. This tour focuses on the Plant Select Petites, which are smaller, hardy plants that work well in rock gardens, troughs, permanent containers, fairy gardens, green roofs, or other small garden spaces.
You can find additional Plant Select plants located throughout the Gardens. For more information about the Plant Select program, visit their
