![]() The Cactus and Succulent House offers an extensive look at non-hardy succulents, including cacti, from the Americas and Africa. This display shows the vast range of sizes, shapes, colors, and forms that exists in this special group of plants.
Renovated in summer 2021, some larger cactus specimens were removed from the display to make room for more species and diversity — now totaling over 200 species representing 14 different plant families! We added more geographical features to show the plants in a more naturalistic setting. Cactus and succulents tend to be slow growing; these plants are watered to mimic the seasonal moisture to which they are adapted. Staff created the custom soil mix to be porous, structurally sound and sticky, so it stays in place when wet even on sloped surfaces. Some of the genera you can see displayed include Adromischus, Agave, Aloe, Crassula, Euphorbia, Gymnocalycium, Haworthia and Lithops. Find the Cactus and Succulent House in the southwest corner of the Gardens, in the Rock Alpine Garden. Use the number tags in the display to find names, photos, and more on the digital plant list below. |
