LANDSCAPE USES This 3 feet tall by 30 inches wide plant bears evergreen silver foliage that provides year-round interest. The mauve flowers are set off by colorful bracts that remain showy into the fall. The leaves are fragrant and supposedly browse-resistant by rabbit and deer. This plant is a good choice for a dry, sunny garden area. Prune back and shape in late fall. Zones 5 - 9
BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION The plant has sprawling, decumbent stems that are woody at the base and minutely pubescent. The leaves are 3 cm long, petiolate, simple, ovate to oblong, with an obtuse apex and attenuated base, margin entire, and glandular-tomentose. The petioles are 15 mm long. The inflorescense is 2-4 spaced whorls. The bracts are purple. The calyx is 12 mm long with a truncated upper lip and a toothed lower lip. The corolla is 22 mm long, blue to violet in color, pubescent band inside, 2-lipped, and the lower lip is four times longer than the upper lip.
