rossii - named for William Ross, a botanical collector

Geum rossii is named for Sir James Clark Ross, 1800-1862, Antarctic explorer, by Joseph Dalton Hooker, who was the botanist on the Ross Expedition to Antarctica, from 1839-1943. Several geographical features in Antarctica are named for Ross, as well the Ross Seal
