DERIVATION
Astragalus - From the Greek word for ankle bone, referring to the shape of seeds
osterhoutii - for George Everett Osterhout (1858-1937); born and educated in Pennsylvania, moved to New Windsor, Colorado in 1885 where he owned a lumber company and built a personal herbarium of regional wildflowers numbering over 8000 personal collections, now housed at the Rocky Mountain Herbarium at the University of Wyoming.
